The next generation of nurses

Date of news/blog: 7th May 2024

Brockington House is always happy to encourage the next generation of nurses and recently we have been pleased to welcome Student Nurses from the University of Worcester.

One of the Nurses gaining hands-on experience with us is Liv Evans.

Liv’s family work in health and social care so they say it was a logical choice when deciding their own career.

Liv did some care work before gaining their access to higher education diploma and as part of the three-year university course students are required to gain practical experience in a care setting.
During Liv’s 14 weeks at Brockington House, they shadowed our Nurses performing their day-to-day roles, including helping with medication rounds, as well as supporting our Care Assistants too.
And they also helped our Activity Coordinators by taking part in activities with our ladies and gentlemen and accompanying them on trips out.
Liv says: “I learned a lot during my time at Brockington and everyone was really supportive towards me.
“You get thrown in at the deep end but that’s amazing as you learn more quickly and I think the experience will help me become a well-rounded Nurse in the future.
“I hope to become a Mental Health Nurse so being around residents with dementia and seeing how we support them will definitely stand me in good stead during my career.
“It’s been a great way of building more confidence too.”
