Part of the furniture

Date of news/blog: 8th May 2024

Debbie Powell is quite literally a part of the furniture at Foxhunters, having been here since the home opened.

In fact, she joined whilst the home was still being built!

Debbie, who is our Assistant Administrator, was part of the team who helped get Foxhunters open, including interviewing and inducting the new members of staff.

She has seen the home without carpets, paint and pretty much everything else so as the ‘OG’ she is well placed to talk about the home and the particular impact it has had on her.

In fact, she still gets emotional when discussing it.

“Working here means so much to me,” she explains.

“To feel you are helping somebody is just amazing and I never wake up and think urgh I need to go to work today.

“Of course, you love your holidays and days off, but so much happens when you are not here that you can’t wait to get back to see what you have missed.

“Every day something different and I don’t want to miss it.”

Debbie started her working life as an Optical Assistant before leaving to have her son.

She then became a Nanny and worked in children’s nurseries, which gave a first insight in working in a care setting.

“I needed a new challenge, something that was just for me and where I use my skills as a people person,” she says.

“I worked at another care home and the Manager who was there came to Foxhunters and asked me to come and I am so glad she did, because I love it here.”

Debbie is likely to be the first person you speak to if you call Foxhunters, either looking for care for a loved one or as a family member wishing to speak to a loved one.

“I love meeting the families when they come in,” says Debbie.

“You feel the atmosphere, the warmth, and happiness of our ladies and gentlemen and staff immediately when you walk through the doors.

“It’s a special place which really sells itself!”

Outside of work, Debbie enjoys spending time with her fiancé and her now 19-year-old son. She also likes horse riding, walking, and socialising.

She adds: “I live within a few minutes of my parents and sister, so my family is a very important part of my life.”
