Books, Quizzes and Teddy Bears!
Date of news/blog: 13th September 2021It was ‘Literacy Day’ this week, we reminisced about the ages that we started to read, which were between 4-9 years old and the books that impressed us. Enid Blyton, Charles Dickens, Shakespeare comics like the Beano and Dan Dare. Children classics like Black Beauty and the Chalet School series of novels by Elinor Brent-Dyer. I spoke to John and he remembered a child favourite the Lion and Albert by Marriott Edgar. Throughout the session, facts were given about how many children in the world still require a basic knowledge of learning, and how lucky we are to live in a country that encourages this.
It was National teddy bear day this week so we looked at the history of our beloved fluffy friends growing up and some are cherished still! The group reminisced about Rupert the Bear, Paddington Bear, Sooty and Winnie the Pooh. Some of our ladies brought along a few bears of their own! Sue had some beautiful pictures of when she was young with a beloved furry friend that she has allowed me to share. Thanks Sue!
We had a brilliant quiz playing ‘Play Your Cards Right.’ There were lots of laughs as one side only scored 1 point! But we all agreed it was the taking part that counts!
