A unique set of challenges

Date of news/blog: 7th May 2024

The maintenance of a luxury residential care home like Brockington House presents a unique set of challenges.

This is because not only is it a place of work, more importantly it’s somewhere our ladies and gentlemen call their home.

It is therefore vital that Brockington remains a pleasant, safe, and efficient setting where the freedom and dignity of residents is respected, and the health and safety of both employees and our ladies and gents is sensibly and effectively managed.

Everyone at the home has a responsibility for ensuring this is the case, but ultimately it rests with Maintenance Manager Alan Preece and his Assistant Andrew Baynham.

Alan came to Brockington House in 2019 and was followed by Andrew, whose sister Beverley is our Head Housekeeper, in 2022 and they oversee the general, day-to-day compliance and maintenance of the home.

This can include something as simple as changing a light bulb through to something more complex as installing new falls prevention technology in our ladies and gentlemen’s rooms.

“Every day is different but that’s one of the best things about working here,” say the pair.

“We can plan jobs, but there’s always something unexpected which crops up throughout the day, so we’re always kept busy.

Alan worked in the building trade and is an engineer by trade, as is Andrew, so it’s safe to say they are they both very handy.

They add: “We are here to ensure we keep the standards of the home up for everyone.

“It’s not uncommon for us to do over 10,000 steps during the course of the day, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
