A recipe for success
Date of news/blog: 18th October 2023Combining a team bonding exercise with fundraising proved a recipe for success for the kitchen team at Brockington House.
Lead by Head Chef Cihan Wiltshire, the fab five took on the challenge of the Race for Life in Birmingham and set a fundraising target of £250 for cancer research. They smashed this total by raising just under £500.
The event combined a 5km run with muddy obstacle course and traditionally competitors wear pink running gear. The Brockington House boys went one better however after team member Ashley Davies suggested wearing pink versions of their normal uniforms.
“This certainly got us noticed and we had plenty of support from spectators,” said Cihan. “We all finished the course very muddy but very pleased.”
Joining Cihan were Chef Ashley, Kitchen Assistant Benito Birrellm as well as Head Host Keith Sullivan and Host Tyler Davies.
“We were looking for a team bonding exercise and thought it would be good to combine this with some fundraising. We chose cancer research because it is a disease that has impacted so many people,” said Cihan.
Shann Thomas, Home Director at Brockington House, said: “We are all very proud of what the Cihan and the kitchen team achieved; they are fantastic ambassadors for Brockington House.”
The kitchen team all get on well and have trained together at a local boxing club. They hope to complete another fundraising challenge next year.
