A clean freak

Date of news/blog: 7th May 2024

By her own admission, Brockington House Head Housekeeper Bev Price is a freak – a clean freak that is!

And we know our ladies and gentlemen and their families wouldn’t have it any other way!

This, remarkably, is Bev’s first professional job in cleaning, having joined Brockington House in 2020.

But she says it’s the best thing she has ever done.

Bev worked in a butcher’s shop after leaving school, before working in a garden centre, restaurant and then at a supermarket for 15 years.

Looking for a change and with a friend who worked in care, mum-of-three and grandmother-of-five Bev, applied for a position in housekeeping at Brockington.

Within a few years she was promoted to Deputy and then in November 2023, she became the Head of the ten-strong team.

The team are responsible for ensuring the home remains spotlessly clean, including bedrooms, communal areas, and dining rooms, as well as washing and ironing the clothes of our ladies and gents each day.

“We run it like a five-star hotel because that is effectively what Brockington House is,” explains Bev, whose brother Andy also works here, on the maintenance team.

“It’s like painting a bridge, we never finish because once we do, we start all over again, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I have always been a clean freak at home; I just don’t know why I didn’t do this earlier in my life now because it’s the best thing I have ever done. I absolutely love it.

“It’s a stunning place to work and the residents are amazing. They are great characters and talking to them and hearing their stories makes the job even better. Time just flies!”

When she’s not being a clean freak at home or work, Bev enjoys spending time with her family.
