A checklist

Date of news/blog: 25th September 2023

Mark Spittles can provide a checklist of why he enjoys being a Nurse at Bramshott Grange so much.

In no particular order, the list would be:

  • The CEO of the company is a Nurse.
  • You feel appreciated.
  • You get more time with the ladies and gentlemen in our care
  • There’s a bright, fresh feel to the place.
  • There’s lots for the residents to do, which helps their mental and physical health.

He could add more, but for Mark this all adds up to a pleasant working environment.

Mark joined Bramshott just after it opened in 2018. Previously he worked in hospitals for the NHS, having qualified in 2003.

“I had a few different jobs before this, but none were interesting and I found 9-5 working life very boring,” he explains.

“A friend of mine was a Nurse and encouraged me to come to an open day and from there I took an access course at a local college, and this has been my profession ever since.”

Mark says being a Nurse in the NHS and a Nurse in a care home is similar, other than he jokes that you have to pay for parking and your meals in the NHS!

A typical day can involve administering medications to our ladies and gentlemen, liaising with doctors or family members, treating any injuries which may occur, for example if someone has fallen and reviewing/updating care plans.

“It’s a very unique place in which to work and we are very well supported,” says Mark.

“Our CEO Helen is a trained Nurse so she understands the important role we play and is always encouraging staff to undertake training that will benefit them and the home in general.”
