Feel at home

Date of news/blog: 25th September 2023

Having worked in community care before she came into residential care, Tracey Doherty knows exactly how important it is for people to feel at home – and she says this is exactly what Brockington House does.

“It doesn’t feel like a residential home at all,” says Tracey.

“I remember when I looked on the Brockington Facebook page before I joined that it stood out from any other home, I had worked in.

“And even a year and half since I started working here, I still get the same feeling as I did when I provided care for people in their own homes – it is truly unique.”

Tracey has worked in care for 15 years, having been inspired to make it a career after an elderly gentleman in the apartment complex she lived in used to ring her doorbell asking for help.

Initially she worked in home care, including for a charity which provided hospice at home care, before moving into residential settings.

Tracey says an average day as a Care Assistant at Brockington House involves everything from helping with any personal care needs our ladies and gentlemen may have, through to providing support at mealtimes.

“Everything we do here is centred around the needs and wishes of each individual resident,” says Tracey.

“No routine is the same and our ladies and gentlemen can do exactly as they wish, which is lovely thing and again exactly the same as if they were in their own home.

“Nothing is too much for the people living in Brockington House and that’s why it is a very special place in which to work.”

When she is not at work, married mum-of-two Tracey enjoys spending time with her granddaughter and has another grandchild on the way in September 2023. She also enjoys going on holiday and walking her dog.
